Worries Surface On New Navy Mine Warfare Plan

During WWII the Germans lost the advantage in Operation Eagle (Luftwaffe tried to destroy the RAF on the ground before a German invasion of England) when General Goering made his fighters stay close to the bombers they escorted. I don’t think we should tie down Destroyers with MCM equipment, and today there is no room for it anyway on a DDG-51 (any Flt). However, the LCS, ESB, EPF has all kinds of space in its design that can be used for this purpose. Having a modular MCM concept with a displacement, space, power, and access specification would make this fly-away capability very effective in the fleet. The ‘Fly-Away MCM Detachment’ of an equipment set and support network could go anywhere at any time, and some work has been conducted in that arena already.
