#Afghan translators demand asylum in Europe, claiming their lives are at risk for working for #German #military.

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan – Afghan interpreters held a protest Saturday in the northern province of Kunduz to demand asylum in Europe, claiming their lives are at risk as a result of working for the Germany military. Around 35 interpreters took part in a demonstration in front of Kunduz airport, which also acts as a base for German troops and for the Provincial Reconstruction Team. “We are like prisoners at home. We can’t go anywhere. We can’t move freely. Our safety is at risk,” said 24-year-old Aliullah Nazari. He said the interpreters had lost their jobs after Germany downsized its operations in northern Afghanistan. The NATO-led international coalition, which is due to end combat mission in Afghanistan next year, has already shut down several bases across the country, leaving many Afghans jobless. “Security is deteriorating here and the German army has left us alone,” Nazari...
