Sexual assault is a horrific thing for anyone to experience, even when the attacker is ultimately unsuccessful, but we make it more difficult when we take commonsensical suggestions and decry them as "blaming the victim." While it would be nice to convince all would-be attackers not to sexually assault women (or men), the real-world fact is that there are attackers who are not dissuaded by anything and it is important to deal head on with what a woman (or man) should do to prevent sex assault in her (or his) immediate circumstances and what a woman (or man) should do if an attack actually occurs. It is conceivable that submitting to an attacker could save the victim's life, just as it is conceivable that submitting could put her (or him) in an even more dangerous predicament. The brochure was clumsily worded, but it certainly wasn't suggesting this was always the go-to sug...
