Commander Robert Pedre was born in Taunton, Somerset in 1975 and educated at Davenant Foundation School. He was selected for Royal Navy university sponsorship in 1993 and read Physics at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, graduating in 1996. Following initial training at Britannia Royal Naval College, he completed fleet time in the Mine Countermeasures Vessel HMS Cattistock and the Type 42 Destroyer HMS Newcastle. Following a brief exchange with the French Ecole Navale in Brest, he was appointed as an Officer of the Watch in the Type 42 Destroyer HMS Southampton. As Navigating Officer of the Type 42 Destroyer HMS Edinburgh in 2001, he saw service in the South Atlantic. Highlights of this deployment included navigating the Panama Canal and transits of Patagonia and the Magellan Straits. He assumed command of the Mine Countermeasures Vessel HMS Cottesmore ...
