HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visit #HMSIllustrious and #HMSDragon

HMS Dragon hosted The Prince near the coast of the Isle of Wight while The Duchess visited helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious at Portsmouth Naval Base. The couple were reunited at the end of the visit which ended with them both meeting 30 families on board Illustrious. The Prince spent two hours on HMS Dragon – a Type 45 destroyer which returned to Portsmouth in December from maritime security and counter-piracy operations in the Gulf. HRH was briefed on the highlights of the deployment before seeing a demonstration in the operations room of the ship’s potent air defence capabilities. The Prince then presented NATO Libya medals to Lieutenant Commander Claire Thompson and Engineering Technician James Smith, and long service and good conduct medals to Petty Officers Michael Delaney and Timothy Mills.
