Calls for brass to resign add to debate over Mideast policy: Recent calls for the Pentagon's top bra... #airforce

Recent calls for the Pentagon’s top brass to resign in protest of President Obama’s policy toward Iraq and Syria may pack a political punch, but they rest on no actual historical precedent. A retired Marine colonel sparked a brushfire online this week when he publicly suggested Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, should step down because he “knows that the Obama strategy for dealing with the self-proclaimed Islamic State is doomed to fail.” The colonel, Gary Anderson, who now teaches part-time at George Washington University, suggested that any successful strategy must have “American combat troops on the ground to physically clear the cities and towns.” In an article published by Foreign Policy, Anderson said Dempsey should “[slap] his four stars on the table and [tell] the president to find somebody else to pitch the next inning.” Suggesting that t...
