Why some companies hesitate to hire veterans December 22, 2014 By Jeff Hall A recent report issued by the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) says that annual unemployment rates for post 9/11 veterans is about one percent higher than of non-veterans. It also found younger veterans, ages 22-24, had a three percent higher unemployment rate than for non-veterans in the same age group. This compelling study interviewed 69 companies and the report found more than 80 percent said they’ve experienced issues with hiring veterans. Interestingly, most companies, according to CNAS, said even if they didn’t have a formal veteran hiring program, they would still give a potential employee who is a veteran more consideration than a non-veteran.
