Related Navy admiral urges joint Southeast Asia patrols of South China Sea Amid China concerns, Japan, India vow to deepen defense ties Employees and government leaders launched India's first Indian-built submarine at a naval vessel shipbuilding dock in Mumbai on Monday. Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar and Maharashtra State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis undocked the diesel-electric-powered submarine at Mazagon Dock. It is to go through sea trials before being cleared to join the fleet. India is building six of them in a partnership with France's DCNS, with the first set to be handed over next year.
