Weekly Training Update, 8-18 October 2012: The Red Arrows weekly training update for 8-18 Oct 12. #RedArrows

10 Oct saw the skies overhead RAF Scampton welcome the 3 new pilots for the 2013 season as they began their period of winter training in earnest. Lead by Red 1, the small formations of just 3 or 4 aircraft performed simple manoeuvres commencing at a height of no lower than 2000'. The three new pilots, Reds 2,3 and 5, will fly endless loops and barrel rolls as they build up a feel for their new aircraft type and become familiar with the Red Arrows standard operating procedures (SOPs) prior to starting the complex manoeuvres that make up the display. After just 3 days, the new pilots were practising 3 formation positions; 'Arrow', 'Battle' and 'Diamond', and were competent to loop and roll in these formations to a height of 1000'.
