Singapore Participates in Counter-Terrorism Naval Exercise

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is participating in the annual Southeast Asia Cooperation Against Terrorism (SEACAT) exercise, together with the United States Navy and navies from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. This year's exercise, which will be held from 15 to 24 June 2011, marks the 10th in the series, since the first exercise was conducted in 2002. Exercise SEACAT aims to enhance maritime information-sharing and the coordination of maritime security responses in the region. During the exercise, the participating navies will also be conducting planning exercises at the Changi Command and Control (C2) Centre at Changi Naval Base. Other drills include the tracking of ships, and the boarding of US civil resource ships simulating merchant vessels suspected of engaging in terrorist related activities at sea.
