Social Media and the Arab Spring

If the story that we are telling is: a. That we intend to transform and incorporate all states and societies that are still not ordered, organized, oriented and configured along modern western lines -- and that this is the strategy by which future conflicts will be fought (this possibly being confirmed by our recent actions in Iraq and Afghanistan) -- and b. That we intend to "open up" those states and societies that still remain more-closed, more-exclusive and/or more-different and distinct from our own; this, so that we might better provide for the needs of the global economy (which requires "openness" to facilitate the free and unfettered movement of goods, capital, ideas and people), Then, by telling this story, in what way have we manipulated the audience? (In a positive or a negative way?) And, accordingly, what kind of response have we provoked? (Does both 9/11 and ...
