Staff Sgt. Colton Smith has a sizable cheering section, the benefit of a full-length fight camp and the pressing need to snap a losing streak entering his Saturday UFC bout with Carlos Diego Ferreira in San Antonio. What he didnt have was an answer for Ferreiras first takedown attempt. It was the only one the unbeaten Brazilian needed. Smith pressed Ferreira against the cage and tried to land a few knees early in the fight, but Ferreira scored a quick takedown via judo throw, slid around to Smiths back, landed a few punches, then sunk in a choke. Smith tapped out 38 seconds into the fight, giving Ferreira the win in his UFC debut (10-0, 1-0 UFC) and sending Smith and a cheering section of soldiers back to Fort Hood, Texas, where the promotable staff sergeant serves as senior combatives instructor.
